Art Website Design Tips
Carol Pentleton of thedigitalartist.com has a list of 10 things to think about when designing your website (if you're an artist). They include:
- Make it easy to use
- Be consistent
- Skip the ornate backgrounds
- No goofy type
- Check your readability
- Keep the load times fast
- Your images should be clear
- Quiet please!
- Stop dancing around
- Make sure they can find you

Generally I think the message should be to keep things subtle and clean looking. Let your paintings speak louder than your website. If your website has loud colors and blinking, flashing images everywhere, it will take away from the paintings / artwork that you're trying to show to people.
Think of it as a real "gallery" with clean backgrounds and nothing much else around.
The worst thing artist can do when designing a website for his/her art is to add SOUND!! regardless of how inspiring or wonderful you think it sounds. It's annoying and should be stopped.
Basically anything that distracts from the art is a mistake. Ive never been to an art gallery that had flashing stars as a background.. because it would look stupid.. just as it looks stupid online.
