Chuck Close Interview
Robert Ayers over at Artinfo has interviewed the contemporary American painter and printmaker Chuck Close. The artist also has two exhibitions on at the moment. One over at the High Museum of Art Atlanta, of self portrait paintings, and the other is an exhibition of print works at the Modern Art Museum in Fort Worth, Texas (begins April 9).

- Well, I’m a human being and I take pictures of people and I make paintings about them. These are images that matter to me. I don’t do commissioned portraits, and I don’t paint people that I’m not close to.
- We’re again in a pluralist era where nothing dominates and several different tendencies are going on at once. I think it’s really healthy for the art world, but frustrating for people who like easy answers and want to think about this as a particular kind of moment.
- I think those paintings of Morandi’s are about isolation and loneliness. They’re bleak. He uses bottles as a stand-in for humankind.

I have been a Chuck Close fan for many years. He is the artist that first got me interested in the airbrush process. I am also pretty excited about new young artist tht I am coming across; cecily brown and Dawn okoro to name a couple.
