  Draw Your Own Furniture
draw your own furnitureThis idea reminds me of that Picasso video/photo where the little Spanish master is drawing a bull's head or a face (I can't remember what it was) in the air with something. Ok, I didn't explain that properly, but those that have seen it will know what I mean!
Update: Here's the picture of Picasso that I was talking about, thanks to Brian.

"The four FRONT members have developed a method to materialize free hand sketches. They make it possible by using a unique method where two advanced techniques are combined. Pen strokes made in the air are recorded with Motion Capture and become 3D digital files; these are then materialized through Rapid Prototyping into real pieces of furniture." Sketch Furniture

I think it would be great to use this technology to create sculpture, rather than the wobbly looking furniture they have made with it. I guess the furniture is a way of commercializing the idea.

Oh WO-OW!! It's amazing! Thank you for sharing, Dion! You always seem to pick the great news ;)

wow..

I mean, wow!

etchnology usually doesn't impress me but that's just.. wow.

But I agree, more for sculptures perhaps.

that was really cool!!!

Great stuff!

Is this the photo of Picasso you're referring to? http://faculty.sxu.edu/~rabe/bodhgaya/picasso.jpg

He created this photo using these steps:
- the room was completely dark
- his assistant opened the shutter on the camera
- using some type of pen with a small light at the end, Picasso draws the bull in the air
- the assistant fires one flash of the bulb (exposing the rest of the room and the artist to the film)
- the shutter is closed

Thanks again for the article and the great blog! Keep it up!

I like this modern take on an old campfire trick.

Awesome!

That is incredibly cool, to say the least. The furniture itself looks like pieces of art. I love how organic the lines look. That's fantastic. I can't wait to see someone try this method for art, as you suggested.
