  Ballpoint Pen Art
ball point pen drawingsIl Lee will be showing his ballpoint pen art at The Queens Museum of Art in New York in July.

It's good to see the humble ballpoint pen getting some love from artists. You see it used for doodles, but finished works on canvas don't often list "ball point pens" as a medium.

"His forms, though abstract, reflect the complex patterns of the natural world. Influenced by traditional sumi-e ink painting and calligraphy, Lee’s work remains decidedly contemporary; his unorthodox materials and distinctive style have garnered him audiences worldwide." Ballpoint Drawings Exhibition

I thought the Queens museum, was the Queen's museum (owned by the Queen), so I had a little laugh to myself when I found out that it was a museum in Queens County, NY. I should get out the house more often.

Here's a view of an exhibition by Il Lee. I found out about the Il Lee exhibition at ArtDaily.

Some of these drawings seem to have an OP Art (optical illusion) quality to them, the exhibition looks good-maybe it will travel over here.

The fact that the picture was done with a ball point pen did not surprise me at all, However, the size of this art piece is stunning. As someone you uses a pencil for most of their works, I definitely have to respect the time and dedication that went into producing this piece!

Yeah, he must go through some pens. It would be a perfect opportunity for the maker of pens to sponsor his art.

Ballpoint pen art powered by BIC!.. the pen that keeps going.. and going.

I should be in marketing or advertising..lol.

I have to agree, the scale of the drawings make them stunning. Like the marketing idea lol!

WOW! What beautiful works! It amazes me that he used a ball point pen. I think his work is very inspirational. Thank you for sharing it with us!

the QMA is one of the best museums around. located in gorgeous Flushing Meadows Corona Park, it's not crowded like Central Park or filled with baby strollers like Park Slope. after all you have to WANT to go to Queens, and especially need something pulling you to the far fringes of eastern Queens. but it's totally worth it. I look forward to seeing the show.
