  Art Scam Avoided
I know that most artists that have been online for a while know how to spot an Email art scam, but there's also a lot of trusting artists out there that are still getting scammed.

"Anonymous" just posted a comment on this Art Scammers post which made me smile.. and feel useful! .. here it is..

My husband was contacted last week by Lisa Benson and we were ready to do business. She was busy with her twin sister's wedding and her husband had already sent the checks via Royal Mail from London.

We got the six $750 money orders, way over the asking price, and she asked him to give the excess money to the shipping company. Her last email was so insistint that we cash the money orders:

"Thank you for your mail about the payment you received kindly go and cash the payment, I will also get in touch with the shipping agency as well to get in touch with you for the pickup .
Kindly get back to me today when you have the payment cashed.
I cant wait to have my artwork here.
Thank you so much"

I am so glad I searched google for "art scams" because we were sooo close to becoming victims!

That is so cool! yea!!!!!!!!1

you have to be so careful these days. It is unfortunate that you have to be suspicious of everything and everyone no matter how genuine they may seem

I've had someone try to scam me before... When I got the cashier's check, I could tell it was a fake. So, I called the so-called issuing bank (which did exist), and they proved me correct. It is sad that this is happening, but all you have to do is a little homework to protect yourself. I just wish there were a way to track down who is doing it...

one of the best ways to avoid these scams is to only accept payments via paypal. it is easy and free to set up an account.

I as well was a victim of Mrs. Lisa Benson and her (or his) messages. It was exciting at first but then when I found out it was a scam after I received the check that was way over asking price (the rest to give to the movers) and found out someone else posted their story about Lisa Benson online, I knew it was a scam. I wish they could find the sick people to do this.

Me too. She got me for $2400. Same story. Sucks so much.

Hello,
Well, glad to know I am not the only one who has had this. Watch out for "M. Landry". Same deal, different person. I found this blog and told the person the deal was off! What a shame that they would steal art from people trying to make a living. What will they think up next!
Thanks!!

There is this false company in Seattle, USA. They scammed me of my sculpture(wooden Robot). The guys pose with a rep. called Jamal Lewis email(moderndd@ml1.net)http://moderndd-artwork.webs.com/.

They scoped me to be a west african art agent and get top-notch artists to carve pictures which will be paid for before shipment. They tricked me to send it before payment and since I mailed it via dhl,I heard nothing after it had delivered.

hi guys, i was almost conned by this mrs. lisa benson, she claim her interest in buying my iphone and asked me to ship over the iphone before the bank of london can actually ship the item over. I was suspicious and had a check on the bank of london and realise that bank of london do not exist. The smart thing is they can create spoof mails from ebay and make the mails seem like they are from ebay. I have checked with ebay, they told me that any messages from ebay can be seen from our account under inbox. Also, initially, when i was suspicious of this whole scam, i emailed back and asked lisa benson why bank of london do not exist, and she told me that the bank's real name is butterfield bank, and so i emailed butterfield, they told me that butterfield has no link to bank of london, and this whole thing could most probably be a scam! After ignoring like several mails from lisa benson, this so called lisa email me to threaten me that her husband is a FBI agent!so guys!these con artists might change their name, but rmb not to ship any items before payment arrives :)

Beware - Robert Cole!

This same email scam almost happened to me. The buyers name was Robert Cole. He wanted to buy my artwork. He gave me a Wisconsin address but said he's moving to the UK. He had a yahoo address.

His email is robert.cole81@yahoo.com .

I have no idea why this might be, but has anyone else noticed that these people use the word "kindly" more often than the average person?!

Is this a Scam?

Hello Will,

How are you doing ?I want you to understand that the deal is on as
my secretary as posted the payment already, but there was a slight
error i guess we can handle with care, instead of the actual amount
$1300 for the item, she made out the check for $2300 she claimed that
was what i requested but she didn't get that straight. So once you
have the check please cash it and deduct the money for your goods
plus $50 that for your running around expenses. The excess fund should
please be sent to my mover via western union, this fund will be use in
offsetting the cost of the shipment he as undertaken for me recently.
Please email at once to let me know that i can trust to have the
excess funds sent to my mover.

Thanks and God bless
Bob

Bob, it sure is a scam.
You send them your money while their check is in your bank, about to be found out as a fake check.

The bank eventually tells you that the check is fake, but you have sent them scumbags your money, so its too late.

Dont even waste your time putting the check in the bank.

Tell them to cancel the check and that you have decided to use escrow.com for payment and see if you get a reply back.
