  Sylvester Stallone and Marilyn Manson
The Worth1000 website is always an interesting waste of time for me. It's a site of Photoshop contests, where artists try and out manipulate, blur, cut, transform, and paste each other. It's people using computer software to change pictures for those that don't know what Photoshop is.

One of their regular contests is called "Modern Renaissance" which asks contestants to put the celebrities of today into old paintings.

Rembrandt paints Rocky
Here's Rocky (Sylvester Stallone) painted by Rembrandt.

leonardo da vinci paints marilyn manson
And Leonardo da Vinci did another version of the Mona Lisa, with Marilyn Manson as the sitter.

See all the entrant over at Worth1000's Modern Renaissance 9 contest.

Here's some previous posts with Nicole Kidman & David Beckham, Jennifer Lopez and Nicole Kidman, and an Alien Mona Lisa.

Sly Stallone fits in well with that style in this image, but Mona Lisa doesn't quite have the same enigmatic smile as Marilyn..

I was looking at some of those supposed "Modern Renaissance" photoshopped paintings and I got really annoyed. I mean why do people think that Bouguereau is a Renaissance painter? I think that if you are going to enter a contest to manipulate an image from the Renaissance you should actually use images from the Renaissance.

Yeah, Sly does look ancient Helly..lol. I agree with the Marilyn Manson thing too.. it just looked weird.. which is why I picked it.

The Mona Lisa must be the most manipulated painting in the world. Every man and his dog has had a go at defacing the poor painting.

Anonymous, youre right, their definition of "renaissance" is pretty loose. Replace the word "renaissance" with "old" and you might appreciate it a bit more ;-)

I think Jack Black one is the best, it just seems to fit his cheeky face.

Look, I have spent a lot of time studying art history. It is something I really love and am passionate about. Before the Cleveland Museum of Art closed for renovations I could have probably given personal tours around the place because I spent so much time there. So, yeah, it bothers me when people are going around saying something is Renaissance when its French academic painting. Thats all I was trying to say. So if the contest means just pick your favorite "old" painting then maybe they should title it differently. Of course the title "Modern Renaissance" is more pithy that "Modern Old".

Stallone I go for; Manson, make me shudder. Somehow I don't think she'd have made the cut with DaVinci. Regardless, I love the effect of the Renaissance application to modern celebrities.

I love thee mona lisa you dudskys did !!!!!
It rocks on!!!

I understand Anonymous. Not everyone takes art so seriously though. I think I saw an impressionist portrait in the entrants too.. or maybe it was another contest there.

Worth1000 is probably not the site to be looking for historical accuracy though. If it was an art history site it might be different.
