  Indian Art - Ashok Bhowmik
Tamarind Art in New York City is showing work by the contemporary Indian artist Ashok Bhowmik. The exhibition opened on the 10th of July and finishes on the 15th of August.

I know very little about contemporary Indian art and have never heard of Ashok Bhowmik but I just love the "Ancestor's Face" painting below, so I thought I better share it.

Here's a blurb from the art gallery.. "Ashok Bhowmik is the featured artist in our current exhibition, 'Alchemy of Enigma.' Ashok's paintings manipulate and invoke a spiritual yet haunting imagery within the synapses of the mind. His juxtapositions have a distinct style, streamed with color and accents against stark, bleak backgrounds to add to the simplistic yet powerful nature of his images. Ashok graduated from the Government College of Art and Craft in Kolkata and has exhibited in many solo and group shows worldwide. He currently lives and works in Kolkata." Just beautiful. I want one.

At first, looking through the potos on the galleries site I wasn't so impressed. But the more I looked, the more I was drawn in and interested.
It is obvious that this Artist has more to say than line and color.

Very intriguing! I would love to see it in the real.

I have seen this show the works have an amazing depth, and a very interesting quality to them that is difficult to describe. Any one in NYC should visit this show the work is good.

Very cool, I love the use of brown and tan in these two, I imagine he repeats those colors in a lot of his work? Wish I could go and see it, I am from the midwest though.

These are really beautiful. i want to buy a piece of indian art for a wall in my home that i have used a lot of different pieces. I have been putting up what i like instead of going for an entirely cohesve look- i have art work by my nephew next to a somewhat well know artist- my absolute favorite right now is this amazing japanese artist, Yoshitaka Amano. He used to design video games actually but has transcended into more traditional art- he came out with a book that i must have- called Mateki the magic flute! its truly gorgeous. I think it would look really innovative and interesting next to the indian art.

I personally would have loved to visit this show , but i stay far away. the works are enriching, contemporary, and are food for thought. how i wish i could collect some of these works!
