  Gone Walkabout
I have been on the road for the past week exploring a few places that I thought I might like to move to (see earlier post), which has slowed posting down. Friends were renting a massive holiday apartment on the Gold Coast so I invited myself around to stay. It was on the 70th floor of a building which claims to be the tallest residential building in the world. It was like living on a plane without all the turbulence and flight attendants offering coffee and bad food.

Here's some storm clouds rolling in..

Here's a painting that I couldn't stand looking at in the apartment, so I turned it around as it would have ruined my week. Friends thought I was crazy but I didn't want it to influence me in any way.

People looked like ants on the beach.

I have a few more places to explore, but I'm starting to think I will just travel around Europe and America for the next year or two.

Q1 Tower? Awesome!

Thanks for the pics, loving them and this update ~ looking for more. I would LOVE to know what that painting you turned around looks like - heh. I will be living vicariously through you!

The canvas looks pretty good from the back though, you must admit. Sort of like a Mondrian without the garish colors.

These should be interesting times to travel. Let me know if you arrive near Amsterdam.

Yes it was the Q1 tower TSL. My friend took photographs of the painting and said he was going to torment me with it by continuously emailing it to me.. lol.

I wont post it though as it would be a bit harsh on the artist. I'm not that cruel.

Karl, long time no see. I hope things are well.

Compared to the front, the back is beautiful.

If I travel, art will be the reason for choosing a place, so it's possible that I could pop into Amsterdam (Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh museum, etc), but it's not on my list of countries yet. I plan day by day though, so anything could happen.

If you come to Switzerland, let me know, I live in the Bern region.

I took a year off from the internet. It's nice to be back. Interesting how not much changed ;-)

Amsterdam is not the only city for art in Holland. My favorite is The Maurits House in The Hague.

great pics! Really love the storm clouds.

Well, if you happen to be in Riga, let me know : ))

Thanks for the offers, but what if I'm some kind of crazed serial killer? Can we still meet up? ;-)

Riga huh? ;-)

Karl, you're right, not much changes, yet nothing stays the same. I can't figure it out.

I do love Vermeer, so if I did land in the Netherlands I would have to visit Mauritshuis.

These are nice pics. If you want to see specific artworks it's sometimes a good idea to check if they're on loan before visiting.

There's nothing more annoying than following the directions in a gallery or museum only to see a little note saying it's in an exhibition on the other side of the world.

Temporary exhibitions from the larger galleries/museums often move around too.

Apart from London (which obviously is a recommendation) I've just got back from Berlin which is a very interesting city to visit not only for the galleries/museums (of which there are many) but for its history.

I remember from a post quite a while ago that you mentioned "all cities are the same" I think maybe after your travels you might not think that!

Yeah, I hate that Helly. I remember wanting to see a big Jackson Pollock in a gallery over here, only to find that it was on loan in America. Very annoying.

And yeah, I have seen some very different cities (Istanbul, Riga, Sydney, etc), but they all have a sameness about them. If I travel, I hope to be proven wrong though.

The biggest differences are in nature.

Berlin sounds interesting too. A few of my favourite painters are German.
