Art News Blog Comments:
Well I went to see Nicola Slattery's work on the art trail again this year and I was very pleased I did. Some very interesting figurative work in a distinct naive yet knowing style.

Does anyone have a good definition of naive art? It's a style that appears popular with many art school trained ... and therefore .. not naive artists. Naive art...a corrundum of the modern art world perhaps but the womans paintings and prints are fantastic! Shame you (ANB) missed it ... were you lost on a walk about in the bush along with that pom?

Anyway never mind ... there is the Brighton Art Fair 2/3/4 October and you can see her work there along with over a hundred other artists showing direct to the public. Check their web at www.brightonartfair.co.uk and book tickets now ... it was extreemly popular last year.

Actually, I will be wandering round in October Earl, but in the us of a. Will be a short trip, but I need to check out nyc. I know some people going so i thought i should tag along.

I don't know of any better than
Naive Art:
Work of artists in sophisticated societies who lack or reject
conventional expertise in the representation or depiction of real objects. Naïve artists are not to be confused with hobbyists, or “Sunday painters,” who paint for fun. The naïve creates with the same passion as the trained artist but without the latter’s formal knowledge of methods.
Encyclopaedia Britannica
Vera Fennell

but Vera the definition includes "The naïve creates with the same passion as the trained artist but without the latter’s formal knowledge of methods." Does this mean that art school trained artists can not be naive but are simple painting in a naive style?

and as for ANB going to NYC in October instead of the Brighton Art Fair... well what can I say? You clearly spend far too much time in the sun and probably poisoned your brain on Fosters. I can understand your hesitation in visiting the UK after your countrymen suffering such humiliation in the Ashes but try and be a good sport... at least for arts sake and drag your mates to the wonder and beauty of the Brighton Art Fair 2/3/4 October.

Eww.. I wouldnt touch Fosters. We just export that stuff, don't drink it here though..lol. Same with most Aussie wine, we seem to just export slops..lol.

And I do agree that we're playing terribly, but the first game you guys were.. lets just say, very unsportsman-like.. I'm not calling your captian a cheat that deserves to lose every game he ever captains again ..lol.

And the second game the umpire forgot to wear his glasses and/or was taking money under the table..lol.

Kidding (partly).. it's actually good to see the Aussies struggling. They were becoming too arrogant for too long.

I think they may have inadvertantly drunk some of your exported wine or larger... but as for those unkind and frankly libelous remarks about the England captain all I can say is how else are we supposed to win ... 75 years is a bloody long time to wait mate... and now if you don't mind I'll just be off to see my lawer about a class action on behalf of the country against you for defamation of our national character... we do not take money under the table...(thats the Italians) we Brits want it on top of the table so we can count it properly!

PS You're still very welcome at the Brighton Art Fair - the cricket will all be over then... but maybe the Rugby will be on?
