Anti-Abortion Cartoon Auction

This cartoon (to the left) has been posted on quite a few blogs recently, and has now been put up for auction on E-Bay. The highest bidder is currently $1,725 USD and it still has about two and half days left.
It’s a 9.5”x3” original cartoon by Stephanie McMillan on a piece of printer paper, drawn with Micron and Faber-Castell Pitt pens, and has a little liquid paper used on it too. So even if the artist was quite famous, it would still be a very good price for a small black and white cartoon.
But it’s no ordinary cartoon. Here’s why I think the price will keep going up over the next couple days on Ebay.

cartoon auction1. It’s funny and cute
2. It discusses a cause that many women feel very passionate about
3. It went viral on the Internet, being shown on many popular websites like BoingBoing and
4. All the money from the auction will go to a couple selected charitable organizations.

I think people are naturally generous and sharing creatures. So if you give them a reason to be generous, they will give big. If you throw in a cartoon and the potential publicity that the purchase could generate, the sky is the limit.
If you feel like being generous and purchasing a funny little cartoon with Bill Napoli’s phone number on it, go place a bid on E-bay. Stephanie McMillan’s website can be found here too.

  2. I don’t think that’s an “Anti-Abortion” cartoon, but rather a “pro-choice” cartoon. Probably just a brain cramp.

Any way, I like your blog. Keep it up!

  3. True, it’s probably more Pro Choice..
Either way, it ended up selling for an impressive amount..

    Winning bid: US $2,201.00

    Ended: Apr-05-06 13:00:00 PDT

Brain cramps are not uncommon around here though.. and thanks for the compliments.

  4. WoW! This cartoon def. says a lot … and, well, I agree! Abortion is in every way immoral. It is considered murder and is completely against God’s will. The opportunity to have a future should be given to everyone and no one should have the right to take that chance away. This unjust procedure, the removal of a developing child from a mother’s womb, is an act of violence and a moral crime in and of itself, against the unborn child as well as the woman responsible for having the baby. Abortion is, obviously, an ethical issue that is highly debatable and causes great controversy. The fact that life begins at conception should be argued, being that abortion is a form of taking a human life. The sanctity of human life is a commonly accepted idea but abortion is in direct defiance of this collective idea! When a woman has her child aborted, she is killing a human, who evidently has committed no crime whatsoever. Who knows what this human life would one day offer the world? Would this unborn child be able to find a cure for cancer? Could he be the next President of the United States? Although life comes with unexpected “surprise,” it is our responsibility to deal with them appropriately and justly.
