- The
Old Time by John Brack - The painting that was meant to make a record
at the Sotheby's auction in Sydney this week sold for $2.8 million. Brett Whiteley's
big ugly "Opera House" was a gift to the QANTAS airline in exchange
for free travel. It was a record price for the artist, beating the previous $2.04
million that another ugly Whiteley painting made in 2006.
- Brett
Whiteley Studio Free - Entry into the studio/museum of one Australia's
most famous artists will now be free. A partnership with JPMorgan and the Art
Gallery of NSW has allowed the door fee to be taken away from the Brett Whiteley
Studio in Sydney.
- Record
Brett Whiteley Price - One of my favorite artists recently broke his own
sales record at a recent Sotheby's auction in Australia. The four meter wide painting
by Brett Whiteley sold for $2.04 million in Sydney lastnight.

Whiteley Painting a Fake - A painting signed by the Australian artist
Brett Whiteley that was found in a Hobart rubbish tip recently has proven to be
a fake. It had the Brett Whiteley signature and claimed to be painted in 1958.

out of love with particular artists, but a certain few always remain close to
me.
- Pro
Hart - The art Mafia doesn't like me - He was a folk artist and that's
how he should be categorized. It's not a good or bad thing, it just means he's
not in the same room as other Australian artists like Brett Whiteley, John Olsen,
or Fred Williams.
- Auction
House Christie's Closes in Australia - Mr McIlroy said the company had
some notable successes, including the highest price paid at auction for an Australian
painting, Frederick McCubbin's Bush Idyll, which fetched $2.3million in 1998,
and $1,982,500 for Brett Whiteley's The Jacaranda Tree (On Sydney harbor) in 1999.
