million back in 2000.

before you die. He has started with a list of his 20 favorite art

Dumas Interview - ArtInfo has interviewed Marlene Dumas in
New York recently. The South African born painter, now living in Amsterdam,

Teacher")

has done a poll to find out the favorite artist of artists at the

be seen in the top ten.
- Fra
Angelico's Found in Spare Room - I'm always suspicious of
masterpieces being found in garages or spare rooms. If I was an art
forger I would use this technique as you get a lot of media attention
and you're not really saying it is by the artist, you're saying you
found it in the garage. The art experts will say it is or isn't by
the artist.
- Banksy
does Kate Moss - The British graffiti artist Banksy has been
getting a lot of media attention in recent months by painting elephants
and tampering with Paris Hilton CDs. He pokes fun at fame and uses
it to his advantage, which has been good for sales of his work.

turned his focus to a more challenging subject recently. Fernando

crimes at the Marlborough New York gallery.
- My
Favorite Artists - It's hard to narrow it down to just a set
list of artists as I have been influenced by so many artists over
the years. I also fall in and out of love with particular artists,
but a certain few always remain close to me.
- Portrait
of Adele Block-Bauer - Mario Naves of the New York Observer
has written an interesting article about his experience with the most
expensive painting in the world. His first thoughts of the $135 million
painting by Gustav Klimt were of a piece of cloth covered with colored
mud..
- Alberto
Giacometti Movie - This news is three years late, but it's
better late than never. I saw a link to the Eternal Gaze movie over
at Keith's blog. It's an animation of one of my favorite artists,
Alberto Giacometti.
- Neue
Galerie's Most Expensive Painting - The most expensive painting

- Most
Expensive Painting Ever - There has been a lot of news around
about the most expensive painting ever to be sold recently, so I thought
I would go see what people have been saying about it. For those that
didn't hear, a Gustav Klimt painting sold to Ronald S Lauder for about
$135 million (American dollars).
- Most
Expensive Painting by Gustav Klimt - The famous Austrian painter
Gustav Klimt has reportedly set a record for the most expensive painting

I" has sold for $135 million dollars.
- JMW
Turner Watercolor - A watercolor painting by JMW Turner has
set a new record for a British work on paper at a recent Christie's
auction in London.
The 1842 watercolor "The Blue Rigi: Lake of Lucerne, Sunrise"

Artists = Bad Art? - Vincent struggled for his art, so did
Modigliani, but artists like Salvador Dali, Andy Warhol, and more
recently Damien Hirst could afford to pay an army of assistants to
work for them.
- Joan
Miro and Copyright Insanity - The Joan Miro logo that Google
had on their homepage yesterday to celebrate the birthday of the Spanish
artist was taken down early because of "copyright violation".
The Artists Rights Society represents the family of Miro (along with
a bunch of other artists) and asked Google to take it down because
"It's a distortion of the original works and in that respect
it violates the moral rights of the artist".

record for a British painting by almost $15 million.
- Pro
Hart - The art Mafia doesn't like me - This week the Australian
artist Pro Hart died, so there has been quite a bit about him the
media. Most reports seem to highlight the fact that he was never collected
by any important art museums in Australia.
- Robert
Hughes on Rembrandt - There's an interesting article over
at the New York Review of Books by Robert Hughes about the Dutch master
Rembrandt van Rijn. Hughes christens Rembrandt the first real "God
of Realism" after Caravaggio. Not because his work is realistic
like a photograph, but real like everyday life.
- The
Yellow House - Van Gogh and Gauguin - A new book has been
released about the yellow house and the time that two crazy masters
spent together painting, fighting, and cutting ears off. Martin Gayford's
"The Yellow House" discusses the time that Vincent van Gogh
and Paul Gauguin spent 9 weeks together in Arles, France.
- Helen
Frankenthaler with Gum - A 12 year old boy recently decided
to discard his gum by sticking it to a painting by the New York abstract
painter Helen Frankenthaler.
- Marc
Quinn to do Kate Moss - The English artist Marc Quinn plans
to imortalize the supermodel Kate Moss as the "Aphrodite of our
age", with five bronze sculptures.
- Rolf
Harris's Portrait of the Queen - Australian expat Rolf Harris,
now based in the United Kingdom caused a bit of a stir with his portrait
of the Queen.
- Walter
Sickert and Jack the Ripper - Crime novelist Patricia Cornwell
has pointed the finger at the German born English painter Walter Sickert,
claiming that he is Jack the Ripper. Historians have labeled her claims
as "far fetched" and "Circumstantial". Sounds
like great marketing to me.
