- Vincent
van Gogh Masterpiece for Auction - A painting that is believed
to be one of the last few paintings that Vincent van Gogh painted
will soon be put up for auction at Sotheby's. "The Fields"
was was painted on the 10th of July, 1890 and the artist died on the
29th of July.
- New
Van Gogh and Not a Van Gogh - I mentioned this Vincent van
Gogh painting last year when experts were unsure about the authenticity
of the work. It turns out that it isn't a Van Gogh painting, nor is
it a forgery.
- Fake
Vincent van Gogh in Australia? - The National Gallery in Melbourne,
Australia may have itself an expensive fake Vincent van Gogh portrait.
British experts on the Dutch master have come up with a list of inconsistencies,
which point toward the work being a forgery.
- Vincent
van Gogh Quotes - Whenever I read a book I always underline
(if I own the book) or write down (if I borrowed the book) quotations
that interest me. They're always great for inspiration when things
get tough in the studio.
- Van
Gogh Painting Sells for $40 Million - A painting of the cafe
owner from Arles, Madame Ginoux has made $40.3 million USD at a Christies
art auction in New York recently. The 1890 painting by Vincent van
Gogh was expected to reach between $40 and $50 million.
- The
Yellow House - Van Gogh and Gauguin - A new book has been
released about the yellow house and the time that two crazy masters
spent together painting, fighting, and cutting ears off. Martin Gayford's
"The Yellow House" discusses the time that Vincent van Gogh
and Paul Gauguin spent 9 weeks together in Arles, France.
- Self
Portrait - Art Gallery of NSW - Self Portrait - Renaissance
to Contemporary is on at the Art Gallery of New South Wales up until
the 14th of May. The collection spans 500 years and includes some
masters of the self portrait. Vincent van Gogh (Self Portrait with
Felt Hat), Rembrandt, Velasquez, Gerhard Richter, Chuck Close, and
more..
- Vincent
van Gogh's Birthday - It is the Dutchman's birthday today
and Google is celebrating it with a Van Gogh-ish Google logo on their
homepage.

- Sotheby's
Auction Panic and Christie's Auction Records - After seeing
the Sotheby's auction fizzle out last week, I thought record prices
might have become a rare event. Of the 76 works on sale, 20 failed
to find buyers, including this wheat field painting (pictured) by
Vincent van Gogh.
- My
Favorite Artists - It's hard to narrow it down to just a set
list of artists as I have been influenced by so many artists over
the years. I also fall in and out of love with particular artists,
but a certain few always remain close to me.
- Rich
Artists = Bad Art? - Vincent struggled for his art, so did
Modigliani, but artists like Salvador Dali, Andy Warhol, and more
recently Damien Hirst could afford to pay an army of assistants to
work for them.
- Photoshop
Art Fakes - So there's a lot that are quite obviously changed,
but there are others that are more subtle. The work above is obviously
Van Gogh's Cafe Terrace at Night with a Starbuck's coffee sign out
the front.
- Relative
of Vincent van Gogh Killed - I've heard of people being verbally
abused or even imprisoned for their art, but being killed for your
art is a little extreme. Theo van Gogh (no, not Vincent's brother)
caused outrage in the Dutch Muslim community when he made a controversial
11 minute film about a Muslim woman that was abused in an arranged
marriage.
- Art
Auction Excitement - A $25 million Modigliani and $15 million
canvasses by Claude Monet, Vincent van Gogh and Andy Warhol will also
hit the block during the two-week auctions in New York, which start
on Wednesday.
