- Etch
A Sketch Art - George Vlosich - The artist George Vlosich
has a video posted on YouTube.com that has been viewed more than 1,600,000
times. It's of him doing an Etch A Sketch drawing for the Cleveland
Cavaliers basketball team.
- Doll
Face Short Film by Andy Huang - I found this fascinating little
short film on Jafabrit's blog. It's by Andy Huang and is called "Doll
Face".
- Francis
Bacon on YouTube - You would think that an online video sharing
site wouldn't benefit a painter (or any static visual art) much, but
I can easily lose an hour or two browsing through the site. Just do
a search for your favorite artist on YouTube and there's a pretty
good chance that you will find videos by or about them. A lot of contemporary
emerging artists are doing interesting things on YouTube too.
- MTV
Art Battles - Art Battles is a live-art competition where
artists create work side- by-side in front of a live audience. For
six years Art Battles have been a platform for talented artists to
showcase their skills in and around NYC in a most unique setting and
under tremendous pressure to perform.
- Box
of Love - I received a box of love in the post recently. It's
a cardboard box, painted by the abstract painter Franck de Las Mercedes,
with a label that says "Handle with care, Fragile, Contains:
LOVE".
- Coffee
Art in a Mug - I like it when my passions cross over. Like
when art meets wine or when nature meets art. I have also recently
discovered that art has also met coffee! I wouldn't say that coffee
is a great passion of mine, but I can't ctop drinking the stuff, so
I must have some kind of connection with it.
- Private
Viewing of a Modern Art Auction - Here's a private viewing
of the May 8 Impressionist & Modern art auction in New York with
David Norman of Sotheby's. Norman talks about a "resplendent"
watercolor still-life by Paul Cezanne, a Rose period portrait of harlequin
by Pablo Picasso, and a highly abstracted oil by Joan Miro, painted
at the height of the Surrealist movement.
- Artist
Documentaries Online - Gabriel Shaffer - Art Scene Asheville
is a series of artist documentaries by Ursula Gullow, profiling working
artists in Asheville. They're put together really well too, which
can be refreshing after watching a bunch of artist videos on YouTube.com.
- Photoshop
Videos - For those that are yet to discover what you can do
with digital software like Adobe Photoshop, here's a timelapse video
of a portrait being created.
- Finger
Painting Child Prodigy - Here's a video of a finger-painting
child prodigy working on a Ninja Turtle picture. My bet is it's a
fake.. but stranger things have happened. There's a link to the TurtleKid.com
website at the end of the video, which is very commercial, which possibly
confirms my suspicions.
- Who
is Banksy? - Banksy, Banksy, Banksy.. this guy seems to be
everywhere. The mainstream media love publishing stuff on this guy.
Andy Warhol would be proud of the inches published on Banksy over
the past 18 months. (Video of Banksy in Palenstine)
- Christopher
Lees Painting Video - Leith has let me know of this painting
video below on YouTube. It's of the Australian painter Christopher
Lees working on a large painting called "Harmony Reign".
It's set to classical music and really works. It was also quite frustrating
for me as I don't have a studio to paint in!
- Free
Hugs - Something not very related to art, but something that
noone can have too much of; FREE HUGS! The hugger is Juan Mann and
the music is from the Sick Puppies.
- Sotheby's
Contemporary Art Auction - A new marketing tool they have
discovered is the use of video online. For the promotion of an upcoming
contemporary art auction, there's a video now online of Tobias Meyer
(Worldwide Head of Contemporary Art and Principal Auctioneer) discussing
some of the important works available.
