  • Food Art - Jelly Beans and Chocolate - I seem to be coming across a lot of food art lately. Wacky stuff, like portraits made with jelly beans (thanks to Helly). Another link I recently found was of the artist Vic Muniz. He uses chocolate to create paintings.
  • Blocks of Poop by Santiago Sierra - The Spanish / Mexican artist Santiago Sierra has managed to create another piece of tasty bait for the media, with his exhibition of human excrement at London's Lisson Gallery. The 21 blocks of shit each measure 215 x 75 x 20cm and was collected by "scavengers" in New Delhi and Jaipur, India.
  • World's Largest Photo - "The Great Picture" is the world's largest photograph taken with the biggest camera in the world. I love the fact that my little digital camera with 7 mega pixels fits in my pocket and can be taken anywhere, but I don't think a giant jet air craft hangar sized camera will ever be very popular!
  • Etch A Sketch Art - George Vlosich - The artist George Vlosich has a video posted on YouTube.com that has been viewed more than 1,600,000 times. It's of him doing an Etch A Sketch drawing for the Cleveland Cavaliers basketball team.
  • Post It Notes and Marketing Art - Neatorama mentioned a story over at CNN about 19 year old David Alvarez. He has created a portrait of Ray Charles with more than 2000 colored Post-it notes.
  • Lloyd's Building by Willard Wigan - I found this story over at Coxsoft news, which was posted a few days ago. A miniature sculpture of the Lloyd's Building by the English micro-sculptor Willard Wigan will be auctioned at the Lloyd's Building in England.
  • Woman Charged for Kissing a Twombly Painting - A woman has been charged in France for kissing a Cy Twombly painting worth more than 2 million dollars. Sam Rindy was overcome with passion in front of the work and just couldn't help herself.
  • Worlds Smallest Sculpture by Willard Wigan - I saw this guy on the news yesterday, working on sculpture that fits inside the eye of a needle. The English artist Willard Wigan works in-between heartbeats so that he doesn't destroy the piece he is creating. He uses rice or grains of sand and a surgical blade to create his "micro sculpture".
  • Pig Art or Pigasso Paintings - Coxsoft Art has pointed out some hot new art talent in the United Kingdom. The artists reside at the Pennywell Farm in Buckfastleigh and are working to raise money for the Farm Crisis Network charity.
  • New York City Rubbish Art - When I first saw Justin Gignac's New York City rubbish in a box for sale I thought it was funny. I thought some more about it and thought it was silly. But after doing even more thinking and after having a look around his website, I now think he's pretty smart.
  • Stock Ticker Symbol Paintings - WOW - I think it helps to know the subject that you paint. For example, if I was a farmer I would probably paint cows and chickens because it's what I would know best. But what would I paint if I was a stockbroker in a past life?... Stock ticker symbols!!
  • Anish Kapoor Art in the Bin - An art collector of the Indian born British sculptor Anish Kapoor was recently awarded £350,000 in damages after an art storage company mistook a work for rubbish and threw it away.
  • Geostationary Banana Over Texas - Here's something for the kooky category. The Geostationary Banana Over Texas project hopes to put a giant banana over Texas.
  • Noble Pet Portraits - For the pet lovers amongst us, I have found a way to glorify your pet and give your friends something to giggle about when they come over. The Italian pet portrait painter Daniela Ria offers a service that nobelizes your cat or dog.
  • Tree Drawings - You may have heard of elephants or monkeys drawing, but what about trees drawing? The British artist Tim Knowles attaches pens to the tree and lets the wind do the rest of the work. They produce some interesting results too.
  • Free Art Nudes if you Pose Nude - The artist "Johnny Naked" has a project where you can take home a piece of art for free if you agree to pose nude for him.
  • Pumpkin Art - It's Friday the 13th, so why not carve a pumpkin?. A New York artist has published a pumpkin carving tutorial online.
  • Drawing on Drugs - Don't try this at home kids. The experiment was done by the US government in the 1950s in a controlled environment. They were testing the effects of LSD on the artist.
  • Dirty Car Art - For those that live on a dirt road and are tired of washing your car, why not take advantage of the situation and make art out of your dirty windscreens?
  • Toothpick Portraits - For those that are thinking about getting their portrait painted, but want something a little different, why not get a toothpick portrait? ;-)
  • Genpets Bioengineered Buddy - I saw a story over at artful visions about these weird little cute creatures called Gen Pets. They're supposedly living toys that you have to care for.
  • Andy Warhol Wig - An Andy Warhol wig has sold for $10,800 at a recent film and entertainment auction by Christie's. The silver mop that was worn by Warhol also came with three pieces of toupee tape still stuck inside it.
  • Plinth Mistaken for Sculpture - I've heard of art being mistaken for rubbish and thrown away, but a plinth being mistaken for a piece of scuplture is new to me.
  • Thomas Kinkade Trial - The Painter of Light's court case has been making a little progress. Here's a previous post on Thomas Kinkade and his "ritual territory marking".
  • South Park's Chef Mauled by Bear - After the recent South Park and scientology controversy, with Tom Cruise protesting and Isaac Hayes jumping ship, I was wondering how the creators would replace the Chef, or his voice.
  • Tom Cruise and South Park - Tom Cruise seems to be in the news for all the wrong reasons lately. It is reported that the actor and scientologist, Cruise has threatened to not promote his upcoming film (Mission Impossible 3) if Comedy Central aired an episode of South Park that poked fun of the "religion". Viacom (makers of MI3) is the parent company of Comedy Central (makers of South Park). Scientology seems to give people an attitude and rob them of a sense of humor.
  • South Park Bloody Mary Episode - Seems like everyone is either boycotting or protesting about something or other lately. Now that the Muslim cartoon depictions of the Prophet Mohammed fiasco has settled a little, Catholic church leaders in New Zealand have decided to boycott a broadcaster for planning to air an "ugly and tasteless" episode of the South Park cartoon.
  • Nineteen Penises Exhibition - The Visual AIDS gallery in New York is having an exhibition of Nineteen Penises. (they're online too, so if you follow the link you can see them).
  • Michelangelo's David makes people go Crazy - According to a psychiatrist in Florence by the name of Dr Graziella Magherini, great works of art can make people feel anything from disorientation and queasiness, to temporary panic attacks, and even moments of madness in sensitive or cultured onlookers.
  • Crazy Paris Art - An exhibition in Paris at the Bibliotheque Nationale has caused a bit of a stir, with the work on an insane man's ramblings that were carved into his floorboards. Plancher de Jeannot (Jeannot's Floorboards) is the bedroom floor of a schizophrenic French farmer, carved with 80 lines of unpunctuated text.

  • Cartoonist Faces Prison for Blasphemy - Austrian cartoonist Gerhard Haderer may be facing prison time in Greece for blasphemy!. Haderer was not even aware that his satirical book was even published in Greece, but has received a summons to appear in an Athens court.
  • Blood Art - Art made of blood has been taken off Ebay. The online auctioning mega-portal does not accept the sale of human body parts, and classifies the works in this category.
  • This is Bananas - Some artists just love attention and an 8ft high pile of bananas is one method of achieving it.
  • Discount for buying art nude.. - A gallery owner has created a stir by encouraging visitors to an exhibition of nudes to strip off to help them to feel closer to the art, he said today.
