Art Everywhere is coming to the United States in August. Started in the UK by Richard Reed the organization aims to flood the streets with great art. Tens of thousands of posters displaying famous American art will be on advertising billboards, bus shelters, and subway posters from one coast to the other. The 58 works of art chosen to be shown were voted on by the public from a selection of 100 works that were put forward by 5 leading art museums.
Art Everywhere US includes American masterworks from 1767 through to 2008, with paintings dominating the list, but there’s also photographs, decorative objects and works on paper. They’ll begin appearing in all 50 states from the 4th of August. Here’s a few paintings that were voted for by the American public..
Mary Cassatt – The Child’s Bath 1893 – The Art Institute of Chicago.
William H. Johnson – Blind Singer 1942 – Whitney Museum of American Art, New York.
Willem de Kooning – Excavation 1950 – The Art Institute of Chicago.
Romare Bearden – Soul Three 1968 – Dallas Museum of Art.
John Singer Sargent – Nonchaloir (Repose) 1911 – National Gallery of Art, Washington DC.
