I Ran Away to Sydney

sydney harbour photograph

Being the professional that I am, I just abandoned the blog for a few days while I wandered the streets of Sydney. I used to do it a lot more often during my pre-mortgage days and my pre-crap-earnings days, but now I’m forced to make this one little muddied puddle as interesting as I can. So I really appreciate the rare moments where I do escape, even if it’s just down to Sydney which is about an hour and a half drive. I caught up with some friends and never went into one single art gallery, which is usually the only reason I go to Sydney. I’m now feeling refreshed and ready to take on the world again! Here’s some holiday snaps..Continue Reading

I am Not an Anarchist – Rant

banksy throwing flowers

Since starting up Art News Blog again I have been called an anarchist, irreverent, a misogynist, an ass, various obscenities, and probably a few other names that I just cant recall right now. I used to keep a folder of hate email that I received from all kinds of colorful people but I ended up deleting it as I thought the energy of keeping the emails was attracting more of it.. or it was encouraging me to write more offensive things so I could continue to add to my collection lol. But to be honest, I don’t know where all the hostility comes from! I could be kidding myself, but I thought I was a reasonably nice guy.. admittedly with a low tolerance for bullshit, but generally kind and considerate. Continue Reading

Posting on Art News Blog

submit art exhibition news

If you want to increase the chances of your art news, exhibition announcement or amazing products being posted on Art News Blog you have to first understand that I live in a world where the days are only 24 hours long. In that 24 hours I also have to find time to brush my teeth, put clean clothes on, and browse cat pictures on the Internet, so I’m always looking for ways to do things more efficiently. If something is really hard to do I’ll generally leave it for later, which really means never ever. Here’s some ways to make things easier for me..Continue Reading

A Look Back at Art News Blog

art news blog

I can’t believe how quickly 2013 flew by! I’m glad it has gone though as it was possibly my shittiest year yet. I didn’t paint much of value, I had a pile of family problems, financial problems, health problems, and my dad passed away, so I say good riddance to 2013, you sucked! I’m looking forward to making 2014 a much better year :-) Continue Reading

New Logo for Art News Blog

Art News Blog Logo

I have made some adjustments to the Art News Blog logo. In keeping with the new WordPress theme that I’m using I have changed the color and I also used a different font for the ‘news blog’ text. What do you think? Good, bad, indifferent? Continue Reading

ANB in NY Times – Art Collecting

Harry Hurt has mentioned Art News Blog in the NY Times this week, which apart from swelling my head a little, also lead me to an interesting article about how an art novice starts collecting art.

Harry teams up with the art consultant Simon Watson and spends a day in the West Chelsea art district looking for “emerging artists with potential star quality.” Their challenge was to find good art at an affordable price, in the 3 to 4 figure range.Continue Reading

Comments on Doris’s Crack

One of the things that keeps me interested in updating Art News Blog is the comments that people leave. In a recent post on Doris’s Crack at the Tate Modern, I said that artists can sometimes ramble on a little too much. And that is fine if you feel like reading an essay, but it shouldn’t be necessary to understand the work.

Anyway, some people left some interesting comments on the post. (not everyone reads the comments, so I’m re posting them below)Continue Reading

New Art News Blog Logo

I have decided to go with this logo for Art News Blog. It’s basically Logo 1 from the logo post here, with a few small changes. It’s not bright, flashy, or complicated, which is what I was after. I wanted it to sit quietly in the corner and do its job without drawing too much attention to itself.Continue Reading

Art News Blog Logo Help

An international art magazine that has a very similar name to Art News Blog (just take off the word “blog” and join the first two words together) has kindly asked if I could make it clear that I am not linked to their company in any way.

I thought my bad grammar and holiday snaps might have already alerted readers to that fact that I’m not part of a larger company. But I have agreed to change my logo as the words “art” and “news” are highlighted in my current logo, which could make some think that this is the blog for the ARTnews magazine, which it is not, obviously..Continue Reading

Three Years Old Today

Art News Blog is three years old today! If internet years are anything like dog years, ANB must be 21 years old (3×7).

Here’s some posts of interest from the past few years..Continue Reading
