Matt Sesow in Australia – 19 Karen

matt sesow on gold coast

I’m just going to pretend that I haven’t stopped posting for a couple of months and continue on like all is normal. Actually it probably is normal for me to disappear for a couple of months ;-) Anyway, I was recently on holidays for a week on the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia and saw the DC artist Matt Sesow showing at the 19 Karen gallery at Mermaid Beach! His wife Dana Ellyn and the Italian artist Agostino Iacurci were also showing work.Continue Reading

Scott Daniel Ellison Exhibition at ClampArt in New York

Scott Daniel Ellison paintings

The wonderfully quirky works of the painter Scott Daniel Ellison are showing at the ClampArt gallery in New York City. The paintings are weird, dark, mercurial, humorous, a little scary, and a lot awesome. I hadn’t heard of the artist before now, so I have been browsing the internet for his work and I’m a fan! Do click through to the gallery at the bottom of the post to see more works from the exhibition online.Continue Reading

Digital Artist Recreates His Drawings from Childhood

kiddie arts of telmo pieper

I was going to do a rant on the baby killing nutbag in Israel, but I’m tired of being angry and sad. Just don’t believe that evil television sitting in your living room. Do your intelligence a favor and smash it into a thousand pieces. Your soul will thank you for it. So, I’m posting about something fun, something that makes me smile, something beautiful. It’s the art of the Dutch digital artist Telmo Pieper. His Kiddie Arts series recreates his own drawings from when he was 4 years old. He has since developed a few more technical skills but I love his four year old drawings just as much ;-) Continue Reading

Big Blue French Cock

big blue cock in london

I noticed that all the newspapers had fun with the headline of this story on the massive cock erected on the fourth plinth in Trafalgar Square. London’s mayor, Boris Johnson unveiled the thunderous blue cock by German feminist artist Katharina Fritsch. OK, I have had my fun with it too, back to work now.Continue Reading

A Guide to North American Birds by Matt Sesow

Before I went on my recent road trip I received a painting by Washington, DC. artist Matt Sesow called “A Guide to North American Birds.” I have a thing for birds and a thing for quirkiness so I really like the painting. I also buy art that I couldn’t or wouldn’t paint myself, so I end up buying bright, bold and colorful paintings which are in contrast to my own paintings that are almost colorless.Continue Reading

Travel Photos

Yes, it’s an art blog and doesn’t have much to do with travel, but such is life. I have been ping ponging all over the place lately but I keep forgetting to take my camera with me. I managed to take a few snaps though.

In a hotel in Canberra I had this trippy ceiling that didn’t let my eye rest. I think as an artist you just let an image take you where it wants to go, but this wallpaper on my ceiling just made me dizzy.Continue Reading

Hunter Valley Winery and Nelson Bay Photos

It’s good to get away from everyday life once in a while, even if it’s just for a couple days and not too far away. There’s not much art news in this post, but I felt like posting some photos.

At the end of last week I went on my own mini wine tour in the Hunter Valley, which is less than 45 minutes drive from where I am now. The Hunter Valley is best known for its Shiraz and Semillon wines. I then went to a place called Nelson Bay, which is also about 45 minutes from where I live, but close to beaches and the ocean.Continue Reading
