Most Expensive Car Sold at Auction

ferarri sold at auction

A super rare 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO Berlinetta has sold at Bonhams for $38,115,000, making it the most expensive car to ever sell at auction. The previous record for a car sold at auction which was also sold at bonhams was the $30 million dollar 1954 Mercedes-Benz W196 R F1 Racer which sold last year. Just 39 of these Ferraris were produced and car collectors worldwide drool over the model. It’s a beast on the race track, with this particular vehicle taking second place in the 1962 Tour de France, and they say it’s also a tame street car which can be used for grocery shopping. If I could afford to spend nearly $40 million on a car I don’t think I would be doing my own grocery shopping. Continue Reading

Digital Artist Recreates His Drawings from Childhood

kiddie arts of telmo pieper

I was going to do a rant on the baby killing nutbag in Israel, but I’m tired of being angry and sad. Just don’t believe that evil television sitting in your living room. Do your intelligence a favor and smash it into a thousand pieces. Your soul will thank you for it. So, I’m posting about something fun, something that makes me smile, something beautiful. It’s the art of the Dutch digital artist Telmo Pieper. His Kiddie Arts series recreates his own drawings from when he was 4 years old. He has since developed a few more technical skills but I love his four year old drawings just as much ;-) Continue Reading

Car Company Opel’s Animals Colliding Ad Campaign

opel car company ad campaign

I’m not sure this ad campaign by the German car maker Opel really works. I guess it works to some extent as it has prompted me to share it, which means it’s viral and is doing what it’s meant to (free advertising), but other than that, I’m not so impressed. Maybe I’m just getting old and losing my sense of humor, but I don’t find a cute little penguin stuck in the bum of a polar bear funny. The ad agency Scholz & Friends created the campaign to highlight the new forward collision alert feature on Opel vehicles and the joke is that animals don’t have this function.Continue Reading

Bound and Gagged Car Art

offensive ute art

The artwork on the back of a ute/pickup in Townsville, Australia is ruffling the feathers of a few concerned residents. The life like image of a blonde girl on the back tailgate of the vehicle creates the illusion that she is in the back of the car, bound and gagged, with a shovel leaning up against her. She’s obviously not having a rest after doing some gardening.Continue Reading

Michael Kalish License Plates

Taking the car theme of the past few days a little further, Angela has pointed out a story about an artist that uses car number plates as a medium. The license plate art of Michael Kalish sells for between $5,000 and $150,000.Continue Reading

Art Car Boot Fair and Car Art

HellyUK has pointed out a couple interesting links relating to the Promoting your Art post yesterday.

From Times Online, they talk about artists using a whole bunch of new marketing and sales techniques that were once frowned upon by “fine artists.” Heavyweight hitters like Tracey Emin, Gavin Turk and Peter Blake are selling their own work at the Art Car Boot Fair..Continue Reading

Promoting Your Art While Driving

Here’s an interesting way of promoting your art. Barbara Rush has spent a measly $79.55 on putting this ad on the tire cover of her car. It’s an image of her work with her website address clearly visible.

I think it looks really smart. It wouldn’t work this well with every image or every car, but it’s something for artists to think about.Continue Reading

Dirty Car Art

For those that live on a dirt road and are tired of washing your car, why not take advantage of the situation and make art out of your dirty windscreens?
That’s what the artist Scott Wade did. He evolved from writing things like “wash me”, to smiley faces, to intricately detailed portraits and copies of famous paintings.Continue Reading

Lamborghini Art

A man in California liked the look of his Lamborghini Countach so much that he has done a Marcel Duchamp with it. The Californian millionaire Richard Moriarty has bolted his 1974 sports car to a wall in his house and called it art.
The vehicle had to be lowered through his living room skylight using a 70 ton crane.
The engine was also taken out to become the “200 mph coffee table”.Continue Reading
