Matt Sesow in Australia – 19 Karen

matt sesow on gold coast

I’m just going to pretend that I haven’t stopped posting for a couple of months and continue on like all is normal. Actually it probably is normal for me to disappear for a couple of months ;-) Anyway, I was recently on holidays for a week on the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia and saw the DC artist Matt Sesow showing at the 19 Karen gallery at Mermaid Beach! His wife Dana Ellyn and the Italian artist Agostino Iacurci were also showing work.Continue Reading

Kostya Lupanov Self Portraits

russian painter kostya lupanov

Just another great painter on my facebook friends list: Russian artist Kostya Lupanov. He seems to really love playing around with paint. He mostly sticks to portraits but anything he paints is almost always freaking awesome. I thought I would share some of his self portraits as I love the tradition of artists painting themselves. Do friend him on facebook if you like how he throws paint around as he paints much more than self portraits. Continue Reading

Car Tire Sculptures by Yong Ho Ji

car tyre sculptures

Remember those old car tire swans that used to litter the yards of people everywhere? Well these car tire sculptures by South Korean artist Yong Ho Ji are nothing like them, these car tire sculptures are pretty cool. I can’t imagine it would be an easy medium to work with as tires would be difficult to cut and difficult to mold into shape but the artist makes them look effortless. Nice way to recycle too! The 42 year old Marcel Lazar Lehel hacked into the accounts of notable people worldwide by guessing the password security questions of accounts using information easily accessible to the public.Continue Reading

Meaghan Potter Cat Studies

meaghan potter cat studies

I really like these cat studies by Sydney artist Meaghan Potter. She squishes her furry little friends into a circle and leaves us with an abstract pattern that is obviously feline in nature. She says she makes art that revolves around revealing the abstract reality of vision and physical manifestations in nature. Which really just means she looks at cats a little more than most ;-) Continue Reading

George Bush Paintings

george bush on the leno show

President George W. Bush was recently on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno to talk about the opening of the Bush library and to give the talkshow host a portrait painting. Apart from finding it funny that George W. Bush would open a library named after himself, I found him to be quite charming.. just as many mass killers are. Here’s some funny comments from the last Bush paintings post I made..Continue Reading

Really Bad Taxidermy

very bad taxidermy

I remember as a child briefly thinking I should be a taxidermist. I love animals so I thought it would be a great idea to make them for a living. So I wrote a letter (back then we used pen and paper) to a taxidermist and he showed me how it’s done, in great detail, with pictures and instructions. And, ewww, I quickly realized it wasn’t for me. These people below shouldn’t have gone down the taxidermy path either.Continue Reading
