The thing that I like most about maintaining Art News Blog is the different art that I see each day. It gets me out of my comfort zone and I look at art that I wouldn’t have otherwise looked at. I couldn’t tell you the name of one famous Iranian artist but that doesn’t stop me from having a browse through an Iranian art auction being held in Tehran on the 28th of this month. Actually I can think of one famous Iranian artist: the photographer Shirin Neshat.. or is she American? I’m pretty sure she was at least born in Iran.Continue Reading

"Modern Art Movement" exhibition in Iran

A very impressive collection of modern paintings have gone exhibition at the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art in Iran. “Modern Art Movement” has major works from many of the most important artists of the 20th century. Works by Pablo Picasso, Andy Warhol, Claude Monet, Henri Matisse and many others are on display. The museum has a good selection of the works online to view here.
The collection has mostly been in storage for the past 25 years because of the government’s opposition to influences from the West.Continue Reading

Reclining Man with Sculpture, a work by Francis Bacon that has been in storage at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Tehran (Iran) for the past 25 years will soon be on its way to Britain.
