Bound and Gagged Car Art

offensive ute art

The artwork on the back of a ute/pickup in Townsville, Australia is ruffling the feathers of a few concerned residents. The life like image of a blonde girl on the back tailgate of the vehicle creates the illusion that she is in the back of the car, bound and gagged, with a shovel leaning up against her. She’s obviously not having a rest after doing some gardening.Continue Reading

The Blake Prize Finalists for 2013

toothed vagina

The finalists for the 62nd Blake Prize in Australia have been announced. It’s supposed to be a prize that explores religious and spiritual ideas in art but it’s probably more about who can be the most shocking and vulgar. Being the shit stirrers that a lot of artists are, it’s a great opportunity to share vaginas with teeth, boys masturbating each other and a whole bunch of other wanking good fun with a wider audience. Heide Hatry Not a Rose

Heidi Hatry at Stux Gallery

I only know of Heide Hatry through her pigskin portraits of people. They were fascinating and intriguing but also weird and a little bit ugly. Her new work at Stux Gallery in New York is delicate and very beautiful, but still gross! Those delicate looking flowers are actually dead animal parts.Continue Reading

Pig Skin Portraits by Heide Hatry

I knew there was something strange about these portraits when I first looked at them but I just couldn’t figure out what it was. I thought the eyes had a realness about them that is hard to create, which turned out to be partly correct.

The artist Heide Hatry created these weird little creations with animal skin and body parts. So the eyes are real, but they’re real pigs eyes. The lips are raw flesh and the skin is from a pig.Continue Reading

That Ain’t Shock Art, This is Shock Art! – Alexander Brener

Arts editor Tom from Spoonfed in the UK recently went to a lecture at the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London to hear a talk called “Violence to Endurance: Extreme Curating.”

I’ll let him explain what happened during the lecture..
“Periodically they are interrupted by a 50-year old man with a thick Russian accent saying ‘Bullshit, this is not shocking.’ Then, this man stands up and walks to the front of the room (it’s not far – he’s sitting on the front row). He undoes his belt, drops his trousers and takes a shit into his own hand. He does his trousers and belt up, walks up to the man in the centre of the panel and deposits the shit in his glass. He then sits back down, a slight look of triumph on his face.” Continue Reading

Marc Quinn’s Gold Kate Moss and Blood Self

Neither of these stories are new, but I thought I would mention that Marc Quinn’s solid gold Kate Moss sculpture has been unveiled and the National Portrait Gallery in the UK is hoping to buy his 2006 version of “Self.”Continue Reading

Damien Hirst Auction

Damien Hirst may have a pile of unsold artworks sitting in a gallery and Robert Hughes may think his work is “tacky,” but there’s still plenty of rich collectors willing to bet their millions on the British artist. Financial crisis and all, Hirst still sets records.

The first night of the much talked about Damien Hirst auction (Beautiful Inside my Head Forever) made about £70 million, which is 8 million pounds above the high estimate by Sotheby’s.Continue Reading

Prisoner Executed and Fed to Fish

I couldn’t work out if I found this story funny, revolting, or just insane.. it’s probably a little of all three.

Chilean born Danish shock artist Marco Evaristti has made a deal with death row inmate Gene Hathorn to be fed to fish after his death.Continue Reading

The German artist Gregor Schneider is looking for people that are about to die and are willing to be a part of his exhibition, which will be you dying.
