Dora Maar Photographs Picasso’s Guernica

pablo picasso guernica

I have seen sketches and drawings leading up to and relating to Pablo Picasso’s giant Guernica painting, but I haven’t seen it photographed in stages. Henriette Theodora Marković, better known as Dora Maar captured the masterpiece from start to finish. I like how it evolves, even though it was a very planned painting, it still grew and changed as it progressed. Picasso thought of it as capturing the metamorphosis of a painting rather than simply recording the stages.

The Museo Reina Sofía in Madrid, Spain has 28 photographs by Dora Maar of the Guernica work being created.
