Frank Gehry’s Brown Paper Bag

gehry brown paper bag

It has been nicknamed the Brown Paper Bag after the governor general Peter Cosgrove called it the most beautiful squashed paper bag he had ever seen at the opening of the building recently. Frank Gehry’s only building to be built in Australia is probably one of his most criticized. I haven’t spoken to anyone who likes the building yet and it really doesn’t do much for me either. As much as I want to like it, I just can’t.Continue Reading

Aerial Photographs of Beijing by Trey Ratcliff

the forbidden city from a DJI Quadcopter

I have been browsing the web for quadcopters and the aerial photography that can be taken with them and came across the story of Trey Ratcliff in Beijing. He was using his ‘New DJI Phantom 2 with Zenmuse H3-3d 3-axis Gimbal and Gopro Hero 3+ Black Edition‘ quadcopter to photograph the Forbidden City in China and was detained by Chinese authorities. They released him and confiscated his equipment but luckily for us he had already been filming Beijing for 5 days. Here’s some of what the photographer captured..Continue Reading

New World Trade Center Logo

new world trade center logo

What do you think of the new World Trade Center logo? The design firm Landor Associates came up with the new logo as part of a $3.5 million dollar branding package. If I was the owner of the new NYC WTC I would be hoping that I still had $3,499,995 on credit with the design agency because $5 is what I would pay for that thing on one of the popular freelancing websites! To me it looks like a pixelated skull but I’m told the five bars are meant to represent the 5 buildings to be built. Lets see what else can be found in the new WTC logo..Continue Reading

No Exit for Palestinian Artist Khaled Jarrar

no exit at whitebox art center

The Palestinian artist Khaled Jarrar’s exhibition at the Whitebox Art Center in New York opens in a few days time. He also has work showing at the Here and Elsewhere exhibition at the New Museum, which is a look at contemporary Arab art from around the world. He won’t be attending either exhibition as the racist overlords in Israel referred to him as garbage and refused to let him through to catch his plane. With how the belligerent criminal Israeli regime is behaving right now, the artist was probably lucky to walk away from his prison gate with his life.Continue Reading

First Dog on the Moon on Palestine

first dog on the moon

Not as controversial as Michael Leunig’s Palestine cartoon but it still points the finger at the criminal Israeli regime. Australian cartoonist Andrew Marlton publishes his work on the Guardian Australia website using the First Dog on the Moon pseudonym. In the cartoon below he mocks the ridiculous warnings that Israel says it gives to Palestinians before they blow their family homes to pieces. My only issue with the cartoon is the use of the word ‘war’ as there’s no war going on, it’s genocide and Israel should be punished for her crimes.Continue Reading

Cartoonist Michael Leunig on Palestine

cartoon on genocide of israel

Most of my social media friends are artists. Many are politically active and the smallest human rights violation anywhere in the world will see my social media news feeds quickly fill up with their pleas and protests. But when the insane Israeli regime dramatically increases the speed of their ethnic cleansing in Palestine, where children are savagely slaughtered day after day, my protesting friends go silent! The very few that I have seen speak up are quickly bombarded with all kinds of ludicrous accusations, so they learn not to say anything about the matter again. Thankfully, there are still a few great people left on this mad planet that continue to speak for the truth, that continue to hold onto their humanity and shine a light on the inhumane monsters who walk among us. Michael Leunig is one such artist who is not afraid to lock horns with the beast that is Israel.Continue Reading

Tracey Emin Bed Sells for Millions

tracey emin dirty bed for auction

The dirty, unmade bed with yellowing sheets by British artist Tracey Emin has sold for £2,546,500 or $4,351,969 USD (including buyer’s premium) at a Christie’s auction in London. I already had my fun with the Emin bed last month, so I’ll keep it short. My Bed, the iconic, controversial work from 1998 more than doubled the auction estimate by Christie’s, but I’m not surprised at all. I thought it could have made much more than it did.Continue Reading

10 Funny Old Sexist Ads

misogynist vintage ads

I’ll try not to have too much fun with this post as my radical feminist friends don’t like me to have a sense of humor about anything relating to the fairer sex. So let me say now, before you go name calling and punching your little fists into the air or whatever it is you radicals do when you get all excited, I do not approve of these ads. I think they’re funny and educational.Continue Reading

George Bush Paintings Hacker Gets 4 Years Prison

psychopath at the easel

The Romanian hacker known as Guccifer, most famous for releasing the George W. Bush paintings to the world, has been sentenced to 4 years in prison. The taxi driving hacker could spend up to 7 years in prison as he already had a 3 year suspended sentence to his name for hacking into the accounts of Romanian public figures. The 42 year old Marcel Lazar Lehel hacked into the accounts of notable people worldwide by guessing the password security questions of accounts using information easily accessible to the public.Continue Reading

Spider-Man Hard-On Taken Down

spiderman hardon

South Korean artist Eunsuk Yoo’s Spider-Man sculpture hanging from the side of a building has been taken down after complaints from the public. The red and blue superhero is looking down over a public rest area and playground with a giant erection bulging out of his tights. I’m thinking either heights excite Spidey or there’s a stripper pole in the playground. After being up there for almost 12 months the artist was told to alter the Spider-Man sculpture or take it down.Continue Reading
