10 Sketchy Police Sketches

wanted police sketches

Things are probably easier now with computer software but I couldn’t think of a more challenging job than a police sketch artist. Some of the ‘artists’ below should think about finding less challenging careers as this one doesn’t seem to be working out for them. Something not involving portrait sketches or anything at all to do with art would be more appropriate ;-) Continue Reading

Draw My Selfies App

drawing selfies app

I haven’t used this phone app called French Girls but browsing through their picture gallery online kinda made me smile so I thought I better share it. I couldn’t use it even if I wanted to though as I have an Android phone and there only seems to be an iPhone version available at the moment. People submit their selfies (photos of themselves) and users of the app are then asked to draw them. Some artists take the job seriously and other don’t.Continue Reading

Digital Artist Recreates His Drawings from Childhood

kiddie arts of telmo pieper

I was going to do a rant on the baby killing nutbag in Israel, but I’m tired of being angry and sad. Just don’t believe that evil television sitting in your living room. Do your intelligence a favor and smash it into a thousand pieces. Your soul will thank you for it. So, I’m posting about something fun, something that makes me smile, something beautiful. It’s the art of the Dutch digital artist Telmo Pieper. His Kiddie Arts series recreates his own drawings from when he was 4 years old. He has since developed a few more technical skills but I love his four year old drawings just as much ;-) Continue Reading

Meaghan Potter Cat Studies

meaghan potter cat studies

I really like these cat studies by Sydney artist Meaghan Potter. She squishes her furry little friends into a circle and leaves us with an abstract pattern that is obviously feline in nature. She says she makes art that revolves around revealing the abstract reality of vision and physical manifestations in nature. Which really just means she looks at cats a little more than most ;-) Continue Reading

Guy Denning Drawings in Paris

britney spears drawing

Guy Denning’s wonderful drawings have popped up in my facebook news feed for as long as I can remember. I don’t see them as much as I would like to lately as facebook owner Mark Zuckerberg is a greedy little cretin (he’s forcing page owners to pay up if they want the people that have already liked their page to see new posts) but that’s another story. Back to the point of this post, Denning is showing a collection of works on paper at the Galerie Brugier Rigail in Paris, France this month.Continue Reading

George Condo Drawings at Skarstedt London

george condo drawing

George Condo will be showing a group of new works on paper at the Skarstedt Gallery in London from the 11th of February. It will coincide with a painting exhibition by the American artist at the Simon Lee Gallery in London. It looks like it’ll be a really nice show. I wish London was a little closer to Australia ;-) Continue Reading

Old Painter Tries Tattoos

john olsen tattoo

The 85 year old master painter John Olsen has given the tattoo gun a go for the first time. He has tattooed one of his scribbly iconic  frogs on the upper leg of his friend and fellow landscape painter Luke Sciberras. I think I would prefer an ink on paper Olsen frog as the ink on leg Olsen frog sounds more painful.Continue Reading

Rembrandt Landscapes at the Städel Museum

rembrandt self portrait

I’m trying to think of something to say about Rembrandt’s landscapes but I’m struggling to think at all as I’m on day 2 of giving up coffee, sugar, meat, alcohol and anything that tastes good! I have a pounding headache. So, just enjoy looking at the pictures of Rembrandt’s landscape etchings..Continue Reading

Egon Schiele Drawings at Auction

I think Egon Schiele is the most amazing draftsman. He would have to be the greatest artist to have picked up a pencil in the last 200 years. It’s a pity he died so young though (1890-1918). Perhaps if he had lived longer he may have mastered the brush as well as he mastered the stick (pencil).Continue Reading

William Dobell Drawing Prize 2007

In Sydney at the Art Gallery of NSW, the winner of the Dobell Prize for drawing has been announced. Ana Pollak’s “Mullet Creek” has taken first place, giving the artist $20,000.

I don’t think drawing gets the credit it really deserves, so I love awards like the Dobell prize for drawing.Continue Reading
