Art Plus Pinterest Equals Awesome!

art news on pinterest

I haven’t been posting much on Art News Blog lately as I was lost in a cave, but I’m out now and the art sun is shining, so I’m sure I’ll be out there looking for all sorts of arty things to talk about and share in the coming weeks. Something that I have discovered and fallen in love with just recently is Pinterest!! I have had an account for ages now but it just never clicked with me, I didn’t know what to do with it. It is THE social media platform for artists.Continue Reading

Some Expressionist Painters – Just Because

expressionist painters

Here’s some paintings about paint, just because. After the emails and comments from yesterday, I thought I would make today a little less controversial. No pictures of baby killing and no mention of genocide, just good old fashion chunky paint applied by great painters. I love most types of painting, from super-realism through to minimalism, but a good expressive work with paint slapped on and dripping off the canvas will always make me smile the widest :-) Continue Reading

10 Famous Black Paintings

ten famous black paintings

In the name of balance and harmony it’s only right to do a list of ten famous black paintings today! Gallery owners will tell you that darker paintings are generally harder to move as a product but we artists seem to do as many black paintings as we do white paintings. With not much more than a color change we move from the purity and light of white to the somber, serious, and melancholy suggestions of black. Lets start with the most famous of all famous black paintings: Goya’s black paintings.Continue Reading

10 Famous White Paintings

white artworks by famous painters

I was just thinking about the painter of black, Pierre Soulages and then started thinking about white paintings. I do admire artists who latch on to one color, one topic, one style and run with it their entire career, but I also wonder why they would choose to do such a thing. Is it the money, the lack of imagination, fear of change, or an obsessive compulsive thing? I like chocolate but I wouldn’t like to eat chocolate and nothing else for the rest of my life. Anyway, I went looking for white paintings.Continue Reading

Lovers of Banksy Thick – Lovers of Twombly Thinking People

I think one of the requirements for being an art critic of any importance (you could easily argue that no art critic is of any importance, but I think they have their place) is to enjoy poking hornets nests with sticks. If there was a manual on how to be a talked about art critic, Im sure it would say to make every fifth review a controversial review.Continue Reading

Sydney Photos and Heavy Art Books

Here’s a few holiday pics from my recent Sydney trip where I went to see PJ Harvey at the Sydney Opera House. I also saw a few exhibitions, but nothing that really dropped my jaw. My most exciting art moment was buying three art books (two Anselm Kiefer books and one Brett Whiteley book). The books were so big and heavy that I almost lost my arms while dragging them back to the hotel, but they were worth the struggle.. even if they did almost kill me.Continue Reading

Woman Charged for Kissing a Twombly Painting

A woman has been charged in France for kissing a Cy Twombly painting worth more than 2 million dollars. Sam Rindy was overcome with passion in front of the work and just couldn’t help herself.

Painting meets its femme fatale
“I left a kiss,” she told La Provence newspaper on leaving the police station. “A red stain remained on the canvas… This red stain is testimony to this moment, to the power of art.” Speaking to French news agency AFP, she said the artist had “left this white” for her. BBCContinue Reading
