Frank Gehry’s Brown Paper Bag

gehry brown paper bag

It has been nicknamed the Brown Paper Bag after the governor general Peter Cosgrove called it the most beautiful squashed paper bag he had ever seen at the opening of the building recently. Frank Gehry’s only building to be built in Australia is probably one of his most criticized. I haven’t spoken to anyone who likes the building yet and it really doesn’t do much for me either. As much as I want to like it, I just can’t.Continue Reading

New World Trade Center Logo

new world trade center logo

What do you think of the new World Trade Center logo? The design firm Landor Associates came up with the new logo as part of a $3.5 million dollar branding package. If I was the owner of the new NYC WTC I would be hoping that I still had $3,499,995 on credit with the design agency because $5 is what I would pay for that thing on one of the popular freelancing websites! If I had the slightest bit of interest in numbers I probably would have became an architect, but that wasn’t to be. I still love interesting buildings, inside and out, so I’ll probably do more architecture and design posts. Zaha Hadid Architects are finalists in the Best Tall Buildings Award run by the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat with two buildings in Asia. The Jockey Club Innovation Tower at Hong Kong Polytechnic University and the Wangjing SOHO in Beijing China.Continue Reading

Lloyd’s Building by Willard Wigan

I found this story over at Coxsoft news, which was posted a few days ago. A miniature sculpture of the Lloyd’s Building by the English micro-sculptor Willard Wigan will be auctioned at the Lloyd’s Building in England.

The picture to the left shows the architect of the Lloyds building, Lord Rogers looking through a microscope at the sculpture. The sculptor and the architect are also shown in front of a model of the Lloyd’s building.Continue Reading

The United Arab Emirates will soon have the largest Guggenheim museum to be built. The New York based Guggenheim Foundation currently has museums in New York, Bilbao, Venice, Berlin, and Las Vegas.
The American architect Frank Gehry will build Guggenheim Abu Dhabi (GAD) which will be located on a Gulf island (Saadiyat) near the United Arab Emirates capital. It is expected to be 30,000 square meters or 322,800 square feet and will be completed within five years.Continue Reading
