Art Plus Pinterest Equals Awesome!

art news on pinterest

I haven’t been posting much on Art News Blog lately as I was lost in a cave, but I’m out now and the art sun is shining, so I’m sure I’ll be out there looking for all sorts of arty things to talk about and share in the coming weeks. Something that I have discovered and fallen in love with just recently is Pinterest!! I have had an account for ages now but it just never clicked with me, I didn’t know what to do with it. It is THE social media platform for artists.Continue Reading

Chairs as Art

art chairs exhibition

Chairs as Art is showing at the Lois Lambert Gallery in Santa Monica, CA. It’s a group exhibit of more than thirty artists showing one of a kind and limited edition chairs. I wish I could make it to the show as I love chairs almost as much as I love paintings! If I ever become ridiculously wealthy I would like to hire a team of craftsmen to create my chair designs as I just don’t have the skills required. Here’s a few beauties from the chair exhibition..Continue Reading

Bastard Chairs in China

bastard chairs

A friend just shared the bastard chairs photographed by German born, Hong Kong based photographer Michael Wolf. They’re chairs with character, chairs that have been repaired, added to, converted, improved, made more comfortable, and toughened. The chairs are function over form, which is probably why I think they’re so beautiful. The bastards look orphaned but very loved.Continue Reading

Other Criteria Shop

I used to mention Damien Hirst almost weekly as he was always up to something new and/or outrageous, but I have been back blogging for two and a half months now and I still haven’t done a post on the man. I’m not sure if it’s because I have matured during my 3 year break from blogging, perhaps because Hirst isn’t doing anything new now, or maybe the novelty just wore off. Continue Reading

Post It Notes Art

Over at the MadSilence blog there’s a post about using Post It notes as a medium. There’s a Post It note covered apartment (pictured to the left), a Post It note covered car, a flaming phoenix, and the Ray Charles portrait that I mentioned last year.

I do like Post it notes but my desk is so disorganized I can never find them, so I usually use the piece of paper closest to me to write my message down.Continue Reading

Grow Your Own Furniture

This story reminded me of the “draw your own furniture” post earlier, and to a lesser extent, the “drawing trees” post.

Cristopher Cattle in the United Kingdom has come up with a way to train trees / plants to make furniture for you. He has an online guide showing how to make a stool from 3 Sycamores. It’s not as convenient as popping into your local furniture store for a few stools, as it takes about five years to grow into a strong enough stool. But it’s a pretty cool combination of craft, art, and nature.Continue Reading

Draw Your Own Furniture

This idea reminds me of that Picasso video/photo where the little Spanish master is drawing a bull’s head or a face (I can’t remember what it was) in the air with something. Ok, I didn’t explain that properly, but those that have seen it will know what I mean!Continue Reading
