Art Dolls by Junker Jane

handmade art dolls of junker jane

I know I’m a guy and I’m not supposed to like dolls, but these handmade art dolls are much cooler and realer than the fake plastic abominations that are sold to kids today. Junker Jane (Catherine Zacchino) out of┬áPortland Oregon creates these awesome little one of a kind art dolls or soft sculptures and sells them on Etsy for very reasonable prices. I would much rather my kid (if I had one) being attached to a little work of art with character than to a soulless piece of plastic made in China.Continue Reading

911 Art

911 explosion

We never did get a Guernica equivalent for the September 11 attacks. Maybe because we don’t have a Picasso, perhaps because painting just doesn’t matter as much, or possibly because the images themselves are powerful enough. Cartoonists and sculptors did some really good 9/11 art, but painters, not so much. Continue Reading

Who Killed Bambi? Patricia Waller Killed Bambi

Remember the Knitting for Psychos post a little while ago? A couple people even wrote to me and told me that I was disgusting for posting them, but I think they just forgot to take their pills before writing to me. Well, I didn’t know who the works belonged to at the time, but now I do (thanks to those who let me know).Continue Reading

Knitted Dead Animals (Knitting for Psychos)

When I think of knitting I don’t think of unicorns stabbing teddy bears and rabbits with carrots sticking out of them, but obviously someone does. A friend let me know about these disturbing little creations after she saw the roadkill toys. I couldn’t find out who created them either, so I’ll just link to the Flickr page here. It’s called Knitting for Psychos.Continue Reading

Roadkill Toys

My warped sense of humor makes me think these plush toys would be great gifts for kids or PETA members. I’m an animal lover and I try to limit my meat consumption, but I also like to have a laugh. Life really isn’t as serious as some of us make it out to be.

The road kill toys come with their own plastic bodybag, and some have an “I Love RoadKill” bumper sticker, death certificates and toe tags.Continue Reading

Radiology Art

I found out about the “radiology art” of Satre Stuelke from a NY Times article called “The Inner Beauty of a McNugget” but I would have called it something like “Scary, Toxic Looking Chicken McNuggets.”

Stuelke has also done a few McDonalds burgers for his Radiology Art project and they look just as scarily toxic as the McNuggets. Sure, they’re beautiful to look at but they’re probably not something that should be put into your mouth.Continue Reading

Genpets Bioengineered Buddy

I saw a story over at artful visions about these weird little cute creatures called Gen Pets. They’re supposedly living toys that you have to care for.Continue Reading

Edvard Munch Board Game

I guess it’s always good to keep a sense of humor about life and the challenges we come across, which kind of made me smile when I read that the Munch Museum is selling a board game about the theft of Edvard Munch’s The Scream painting. One could either sit and cry about the great loss or lighten up and possibly even make a few extra dollars from it all.Continue Reading
