Famous Singers Who Paint

singers who paint

I was just thinking in the bathtub (which is where I solve the problems of the world) about music and painting. I was listening to random songs on the iPod and the songs were so ridiculously varied, from System of a Down to Beethoven and everything in between. Much like paintings, I love a really wide variety of works, from Bruegel to Hirst. But in both music and painting my absolute favorite works are those where the maker seems to be about to lose control. They’re emotionally intense, filled with extremes, and they’re begging you to react to them. They could be screaming with rage, quietly crying or on a spiritual high.. none of them are relaxed and comfortable though. I’m not sure where I’m going with this, but here’s some famous singers who also paint ;-) Continue Reading

10 Crowdfunding Sites for Artists

crowdfunding or crowd sourcing websites

Did you know that the video game called Star Citizen raised more than $40 million from crowdfunding? One part of the money was raised using Kickstarter and the other independently on their own website. Quite a few crowdfunded projects have raised more than a million dollars but there must be thousands of small projects being funded as I’m forever seeing campaigns pop up on my facebook feed and in my email inbox. Artists are in on the action too. We’re funding books, exhibitions, travel, and all kinds of other wacky things. Here’s a list of 10 crowdfunding websites (there now seems to be hundreds of them out there!).Continue Reading

Jay Z’s Picasso Baby Performance

During my 3 year hibernation I was still keeping up with what was happening, but my slothful ways always won out when I would sit down to learn how to move the blog from Blogger to WordPress. During one failed Art News Blog comeback, which was motivated by my falling asleep while browsing art news, I came up with an excellent tagline for ANB: More Art, Less Masturbation!Continue Reading

Music to Paint to

Since discovering the iPod I now rarely listen to whole albums while I paint as I just create play lists to suit my mood. But some albums just play well all the way through so I still use them in the studio.

Here’s Ten albums that have kept me company during the completion of a painting or two..Continue Reading

Omar Faruk Tekbilek at the Sydney Opera House

Since going to see PJ Harvey at the Sydney Opera House last month I have been looking for any excuse to go back. I have been looking for pop/rock/folk musicians to perform there; musicians that I know. Last night I made it back to the Opera House (almost in the same seat as last time) to see the Turkish Sufi musician Omar Faruk Tekbilek.Continue Reading

Sigur Ros Video – Heima

YouTube is a ridiculously addictive waste of time, yet I keep going back. Not everyday, just when I want to hear a band, singer, or when someone sends me a link and says “you must see this.” But when I do go to YouTube I keep jumping from one video to the next, until I realize that hours have passed and nothing constructive has been done on the PC.Continue Reading

Sydney and PJ Harvey at the Opera House

Posting has been a little light lately as I took off for some city time in Sydney. My excuse for going down to Sydney was to see PJ Harvey at the Sydney Opera House, which was well worth the extra dollars I had to pay for tickets on eBay! (it was sold out so I took the risk with tickets on eBay).Continue Reading
