Among the 6 shortlisted buildings for the 2014 Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Stirling Prize for the best new buildings in Britain are the already famous Shard by Renzo Piano and the beautiful London Aquatics Centre by Zaha Hadid. Other buildings include the Everyman Theatre in Liverpool by Haworth Tompkins, the Library of Birmingham by Mecanoo, the London School of Economics building by O’Donnell + Tuomey Architects, and the Manchester School of Art building by Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios. Here’s the 6 shortlisted buildings..
Obviously I’m arranging them in the order of who I think should win, 1st through to 6th place.
Building 1) London Aquatics Centre by Zaha Hadid Architects. I love most Hadid buildings and interiors. If I was world dictator I would demand that she design 60 percent of the buildings on planet earth!
Building 2) Library of Birmingham by Mecanoo. What can I say, I have a thing patterns and the decorative.
Building 3) London School of Economics – Saw Swee Hock Student Centre by O’Donnell + Tuomey Architects.
Building 4) Manchester School of Art by Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios
Building 5) London Bridge Tower (The Shard) by Renzo Piano Building Workshop
Building 6) Everyman Theatre, Liverpool by Haworth Tompkins
I was going to add one image of each but felt they needed more, so I hope you enjoyed looking at them as much as I did. They’re all nice buildings. The winner will be announced in October. Find out more about the 2014 RIBA Stirling Prize at their website here.
